Directories are boring leverage - in a good way. A thoughtful row on the right sites still sends qualified clicks months later, especially for comparison and “alternatives to X” intent.
This list groups directory types, not every URL on the internet. Always read each site’s current submission rules before you ship.
Type 1: Launch-day and maker spikes
- Product Hunt - The default “big day” for many consumer-leaning SaaS.
- Indie launchpads - Smaller pools; often better signal-to-noise for micro-SaaS.
Feedback loop: Save your PH URL; watch comments with Needle keyword alerts.
Type 2: Comparison and “alternatives” SEO
- AlternativeTo-class - High intent when buyers compare vendors.
- SaaS comparison hubs - Category and “vs” pages.
Feedback loop: Read reviews on those pages; mirror honest cons on your own FAQ.
Type 3: Review marketplaces (B2B)
- G2 / Capterra / GetApp-class - Procurement-heavy journeys.
Feedback loop: Treat reviews as product tickets - themes map to roadmap.
Type 4: AI-specific catalogs
If AI is core to value, AI tool directories can match searcher intent. Be specific about model behavior, privacy, and limits - generic “AI-powered” blurbs underperform.
Type 5: Curated listings on Needle
Needle Directory - A Needle-native catalog with moderation and verification. Best when you want:
- A stable product page on Needle
- Alignment with Needle search and your broader GTM
Submit via Directory submit.
After you list: mine feedback with Needle
- Brand string monitoring (company + product + common typos).
- Category searches weekly for new threads.
- Competitor threads for switching language (alternatives mining).
