Verdict: Awario is a solid, low-cost brand monitoring tool. It watches social networks, news, blogs, and forums for your keywords and gives you sentiment, reach, and influencer views on top. At $29/month billed yearly for the Starter plan (October 2026), it is one of the cheapest ways to get whole-web listening. The tradeoffs are tight limits on the entry plan (one user, three topics, 5,000 stored mentions per topic) and that, like any broad listening tool, it gives you a feed of mentions to sort through rather than a short list of people ready to buy.
A note on bias: we make Needle, which does a different job (finding buyer-intent conversations in communities). We have kept that to one section at the end. The head-to-head lives on Needle vs Awario. This page is about Awario itself.
Facts below come from awario.com and its pricing page, checked in October 2026. This is not a hands-on test of a paid account, and we do not quote ratings or reviews from third-party sites.
Best Awario alternatives at a glance
Short answer: if you are leaving Awario for deeper analytics, Brand24 is the usual step up (from $199/month billed yearly); if what you really wanted was buyers rather than mentions, Needle ranks community threads by buying intent (from $15/month); and if you only need keyword alerts in startup and developer communities, Syften (from $29.95/month) or the free F5Bot plan cover that more cheaply.

- Custom reports, including white-label reports for agencies
- API access for building your own tools on Awario data

For context, Brand24's entry plan is $199/month billed yearly, and Mention sells a single Company plan with yearly billing whose price was not shown on its pricing page when we checked on October 28, 2026 (see Brand24 vs Mention). Awario's entry price is much lower than Brand24's.
What Awario does well
- Price to coverage. For $29 to $49 a month you get news, blogs, forums, and major social networks in one feed. Few tools cover that much surface at this price.
- Generous mention volume. 30,000 new mentions a month on Starter is plenty for a small brand, and keywords per topic are unlimited.
- Boolean search. Precise queries are the best defense against noise, and Boolean search is on Awario's pricing page feature list rather than sold as a separate product.
- Agency-friendly features. White-label reports and API access are on the feature list, which matters if you report to clients.
Limits to know before you buy
- Stored history is capped per topic. Starter keeps 5,000 mentions per topic. Awario's FAQ says that once the limit is reached, "Awario will replace the oldest mentions with newly found ones." If your brand gets a lot of mentions, older ones roll off on the cheaper plans.
- CSV export needs Pro. The pricing FAQ says "the export option is available to the Pro and Enterprise plan users." If you planned to pull mentions into a spreadsheet or CRM on Starter, budget for Pro ($89/month yearly).
- One user and three topics on Starter. Fine for a solo founder tracking a brand, a product, and one competitor. Tight for a team.
- A feed, not a shortlist. Broad listening returns everything that matches your keywords. Even with Boolean queries, you still decide which mentions matter. That is fine for reputation work, slower if your goal is finding customers.
- Trial length is not stated. The pricing page says the trial gives Starter access but does not say for how many days.
Who Awario is for
Good fit:
- Solo founders and small teams who want to know where their brand, product, or competitors are mentioned across the web, on a small budget
- Agencies that need white-label reports for several clients (Pro or Enterprise)
- Marketers tracking sentiment and reach over time
Not the best fit:
- Teams that need years of mention history or heavy exports on the entry plan
- Founders whose main goal is finding buyers in technical communities (Reddit, Hacker News, Stack Overflow, GitHub), where a ranked shortlist saves more time than a full mention feed
- Anyone who wants social publishing in the same tool (Mention's own FAQ now points publishing users to Agorapulse)

Where Needle fits
Needle is not a brand tracker, so it does not replace Awario's whole-web coverage, sentiment charts, or news monitoring. It answers a different question: who is asking for a product like yours right now? One search runs across Reddit, Hacker News, Stack Overflow, GitHub, and other communities (up to 13, depending on plan), and each result is ranked by buying intent. Some teams keep Awario for reputation and use Needle for weekly customer research.
Needle has a 7-day free trial with no card, then paid plans from $15/month. The detailed head-to-head is on Needle vs Awario.
