Many "best lead generation tools" lists repeat headline prices without the footnotes, and the footnotes are where the real cost usually sits.

So I did the boring thing. On October 21, 2026, I opened the official pricing page of every tool below, flipped the monthly and annual toggles, and read the footnotes. Every vendor price in this article comes from those pages. Where a vendor doesn't publish a price, I say so instead of guessing. Each source URL is listed in the evidence notes at the end.

Disclosure: I build Needle, which appears once below as the "people already asking" option. It's ours, so weigh that accordingly.

If you want help choosing tools rather than pricing them, start with the best lead generation tools for SaaS or the Apollo vs Clay vs Sales Navigator comparison. This page is the price sheet those two link to.

In brief

  • Contact data is cheap per unit and expensive in aggregate. Apollo works out to about 2 cents per credit on annual billing, but a phone number costs 8 credits. Lusha charges 5 credits per phone.
  • The card price is rarely the full price. HubSpot Professional has a required one-time onboarding fee ($1,500 for Sales Hub, $3,000 for Marketing Hub). Smartlead's lead-finding is a $59/month add-on on its two lower plans. lemlist sells contact data separately.
  • Annual billing changes a lot. Sales Navigator Core is 25% cheaper on annual billing; Advanced is only 6% cheaper.
  • Three tools publish no prices at all: ZoomInfo, Cognism and Gong. Seamless.AI's pricing page now redirects to a lead form.
  • Credits mostly don't roll over. Apollo, Hunter and Clay's Actions expire each cycle. lemlist credits roll over. Clay's Data credits roll over up to 2x.

The price table (verified Oct 21, 2026)

*Inferred billing labels: Kaspr and HubSpot Starter show two numbers without a readable monthly/annual label on the page. The lower figure appears to be the annual rate. HubSpot's $7 Starter price is a limited-time offer for new customers.

The hidden costs, tool by tool

This is the section that matters. Plan prices are easy to compare. The terms underneath are where budgets go wrong.

Apollo: phones cost 8x, and credits expire

Apollo is the default first purchase for a reason. The free plan is real, and Basic gives 2,500 credits per seat per month. But:

  • An email costs 1 credit; a phone number costs 8. If your team calls, budget for phones separately.
  • Unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle. Bought-in add-on credits expire too.
  • Basic sends only 250 emails a day from 1 mailbox per user. Unlimited sending starts at Professional.
  • Organization is annual-only with a 3-seat minimum, so the floor is $357 a month.
  • All seats must be on the same plan, so you can't put one power user on Professional and the rest on Basic.

Clay: two meters and two prices

Clay now bills Actions (platform work) and Data credits (marketplace data) separately. The plan card shows the annual price ($167 Launch, $446 Growth). The FAQ says "starting at $185" and "$495". Those are the monthly-billed prices of the same plans, not an error.

The bigger gotcha: CRM integrations, webhooks and web-intent signals start at Growth. Launch has no CRM sync. Actions don't roll over. Data credits roll over up to 2x your monthly amount, and top-ups on Launch and Growth carry a 30% premium. Data credits start at $0.05 each.

LinkedIn Sales Navigator: CRM sync is quote-only

  • Core is $119.99 a month or $1,079.88 a year, which LinkedIn labels a 25% saving.
  • Advanced is $159.99 a month or $1,799.88 a year, only a 6% saving.
  • CRM sync lives in Advanced Plus, which has no public price and no trial. Core and Advanced give you CSV upload.
  • Self-serve purchase is capped at 5 Advanced licenses.
  • Sales Navigator doesn't give you email addresses or phone numbers. It gives you LinkedIn search and InMail, so most teams pair it with a data tool.

ZoomInfo, Cognism, Gong: no list prices

ZoomInfo's page says it "offers custom packages based on your B2B data use cases and needs." Its FAQ adds that each export costs one credit, that integrations typically have a base cost and a minimum bulk-credit purchase, and that monthly billing is something "our sales team will work with you on." Third-party trackers quote median contracts in the tens of thousands of dollars a year, but those are estimates. Get a quote.

Cognism packages start at 5 seats on both of its plans. Gong charges a per-user license plus a separate platform fee.

HubSpot: the onboarding fee and the promo

The free CRM (up to 2 users, no card) is one of the best free tools in this category. Above it:

  • Sales Hub Professional is $90 per seat per month on annual billing, plus a required $1,500 one-time onboarding fee. Enterprise onboarding is $3,500.
  • Marketing Hub Professional is $800 a month with 3 seats included, plus $3,000 onboarding.
  • Professional's "Pay Monthly" option is still labelled "Commit annually." Paying monthly doesn't remove the 12-month commitment.
  • The $7 Starter price is a limited-time offer ("Save up to 65%… New customers only").

Instantly: read the page carefully

Instantly sells sending (Outreach) and lead data (Credits) as separate subscriptions, or together as a Bundle. Its pricing page isn't fully consistent as of October 21:

  • The Scale bundle breakdown lists "Hypergrowth Plan $358/mo" and "Supersonic Credits $197/mo", while the standalone cards show $97 for each.
  • The Hypergrowth card says 125,000 emails a month; the comparison table says 100,000.

Probably layout drift rather than anything deliberate, but confirm the number on your checkout screen. The trial is 14 days with no card, capped at 2 email accounts and 1,000 campaign emails, and an un-upgraded trial account is deleted.

Smartlead: the $59 lead-finding add-on

Smartlead's Base ($39) and Pro ($94) plans show "Add-on $59/month" in the verified-prospect-emails column. Smart and Prime include it. Base also has no CRM access. If you need both sending and lead finding, Base effectively costs $98 a month on monthly billing ($39 + $59).

lemlist: data is extra

lemlist includes warmup on every plan, but contact data is a separate add-on: $20 a month ($16 yearly) for 2,000 credits, which buys 400 emails or 100 phone numbers. Credits roll over while your subscription is active, and you're only charged for successful results. Multichannel is priced per user.

Lusha and Kaspr: phones are the expensive part

Lusha charges 1 credit for an email and 5 credits for a phone number, so Starter's 400 credits buy about 80 phone numbers a month. On monthly plans unused credits roll over up to 2x; on annual plans they're issued upfront and reset at the end of the term.

Kaspr's page title says "Unlimited B2B Emails on Free Plan," but the free plan table lists 15 B2B email credits a month. Its Organization plan is annual-only with a 5-user minimum.

What it costs at 1, 5 and 20 reps

This is arithmetic on the published prices above (annual billing, list price, before tax). It doesn't include data add-ons, overages, or anything a sales rep might discount.

Setup 1 rep 5 reps 20 reps Notes
Apollo Professional $79/mo $395/mo $1,580/mo Unlimited sending; 4,000 credits per seat per month
Apollo Basic + Sales Navigator Core $138.99/mo $694.95/mo $2,779.80/mo Core has no CRM sync
Sales Navigator Advanced $149.99/mo $749.95/mo Sales-assisted only Self-serve capped at 5 licenses
lemlist Multichannel $87/mo $435/mo $1,740/mo Plus $16/mo data add-on per 2,000 credits
HubSpot Sales Hub Pro, year one $2,580/yr $6,900/yr $23,100/yr Includes the $1,500 onboarding fee
Pipedrive Growth (CRM) $24/mo $120/mo $480/mo Per seat, annual billing

Account-priced tools don't scale with headcount the same way. Hunter has no seat limit, so a 20-person team is mostly constrained by connected mailboxes (3, 10 or 20 by plan). Clay prices by usage, so cost tracks how many rows you enrich, not how many people log in. Needle is per account: Solo is $15 a month or $120 a year.

Cost per contact vs cost per conversation

It's tempting to compare tools on cost per contact, because that number is easy to calculate:

Data source Cost per email reveal Cost per phone number
Apollo Basic (annual: $49 for 2,500 credits) about $0.02 about $0.16 (8 credits)
Hunter Starter (yearly: $34 for 2,000 credits) about $0.017 per credit Doesn't sell phones
lemlist data add-on (yearly: $16 for 2,000 credits) about $0.04 about $0.16
Lusha Starter (annual: $37.45 for 400 credits) about $0.09 about $0.47 (5 credits)
Kaspr Starter (annual*: $49 for 100 phone credits) Unlimited B2B emails (fair use) about $0.49
Clay data credits from $0.05 per credit Depends on provider

The differences look large in percentage terms and tiny in dollars. A thousand Apollo email reveals cost about $20. The expensive part is everything after: writing, sending, following up, and the replies that never come because the person had no reason to care that week.

That's why the more useful number is cost per qualified conversation: what you spent, divided by the number of real conversations with people who had the problem. You can't look that up on a pricing page, because it depends on how relevant your list is. Two things move it more than the per-credit price does:

  1. Timing. A contact who is evaluating tools this week is worth more than ten who match your filters.
  2. Context. If you know what the person said about their problem, your first message isn't cold.

This is the gap Needle fills (ours, disclosed). Instead of starting from a list, it starts from public posts where people describe a problem or ask for a recommendation. Across all customers' Auto Search runs from Sep 15 to Oct 15, 2026, Needle dropped 83% of keyword matches as noise, about 1 in 20 posts read was a strong buying signal, and 98% of the posts it surfaced were less than a day old. That's a different input from a database, not a replacement for one. Many teams pair it with Apollo or Hunter to reach the right person afterwards. The prospecting stack guide shows how the two fit together.

Free tiers: what you actually get

If you're pre-revenue, you can test most of this stack for $0:

  • Apollo Free: 75 credits a month, 2 sequences, Gmail-only mailbox connection, 250 sends a day.
  • Hunter Free: 50 credits a month, 1 connected email account, 500 recipients per sequence.
  • HubSpot free CRM: up to 2 users, no card.
  • Brevo Free: 300 emails a day once Brevo approves your account for sending, 100,000 contacts.
  • Clay Free: 500 actions and 100 data credits a month, but no CRM integrations and no phone enrichment.
  • Leadfeeder Lite: the last 100 companies that visited your site, with 7 days of history.
  • Snov.io Trial: a renewable free plan with 50 credits and 100 recipients a month, but no export or integrations.

Two that aren't free: Pipedrive (14-day trial, no free plan) and Amplemarket (trial only, $600 a month annual-term minimum after that).

For one-off lookups you can also use our free company email finder and email validator. Bounce rates matter more than most founders expect; see how to validate emails and reduce bounce rates.

A note for teams in India

None of the pricing pages we checked publish prices in INR. Most bill in USD. Leadfeeder bills in EUR, Kaspr shows EUR and GBP alongside USD, and LinkedIn lists localized prices for GBP and EUR. LinkedIn also notes that its prices "may exclude Value-Added Tax (VAT), Goods & Services Tax (GST)". Expect your card's foreign-exchange fee and local tax on top of the list price, and check the final amount at checkout before you commit to annual billing.

How to use this sheet

  1. Start with what's free until you know which channel produces conversations.
  2. Pay for the bottleneck, not the whole stack. If you don't know who to talk to, that's a data or signal problem. If you know who but can't reach them, that's a sending problem.
  3. Choose annual billing only after a month on monthly. The discounts are real (Apollo's toggle says 24%, Hunter's yearly price is about 30% lower), but so are the lock-ins: Apollo doesn't allow mid-cycle downgrades on annual plans, and HubSpot Professional commits you for a year either way.
  4. Re-check prices before you buy. Every price here was checked on October 21, 2026, and vendors in this category change plans often.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Apollo.io cost in 2026?

As of October 21, 2026, Apollo has a free plan (75 credits a month), Basic at $49 per seat per month billed annually or $65 monthly, Professional at $79 annually or $99 monthly, and Organization at $119 per seat per month, annual only with a 3-seat minimum. An email reveal costs 1 credit and a phone number costs 8, and unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle.

Why does Clay show two different prices for the same plan?

Clay bills two meters, Actions and Data credits. The plan card shows the annual price ($167 for Launch, $446 for Growth) and the FAQ quotes the monthly-billed price ($185 and $495). Both are correct; they are the same plan on different billing terms.

Does ZoomInfo publish its prices?

No. ZoomInfo's pricing page says it "offers custom packages based on your B2B data use cases and needs" and routes every plan to sales. Any figure you see online is a third-party estimate, not a list price.

What is the cheapest way to start lead generation for a SaaS product?

Free tiers cover a surprising amount: Apollo Free (75 credits a month), Hunter Free (50 credits a month), HubSpot's free CRM (up to 2 users) and Brevo's free plan (300 emails a day once approved). Paid spend makes sense once you know which channel produces conversations, not before.

Is the cheapest cost per contact the best deal?

Rarely. Contact data is cheap (often 2 to 50 cents per reveal) compared to the time it takes to turn a contact into a conversation. Compare tools on cost per qualified conversation, which depends on how relevant the list is, not just on the price per credit.

Do these tools charge in Indian rupees?

None of the pricing pages we checked publish INR prices. Most bill in USD, a few in EUR or GBP (Leadfeeder, Kaspr, Sales Navigator's localized prices), and LinkedIn notes that prices may exclude VAT or GST. Expect card foreign-exchange fees and local tax on top of the list price.
