Prices below were checked on each vendor's official pricing page on October 21, 2026. Plans change often, so recheck before you buy. Needle is our product; it's listed under the one job it does.

Apollo is the default first purchase for a lot of SaaS teams because it does several things in one place: a contact database, email and phone lookup, sequences, and a dialer. That breadth is also why people end up looking elsewhere. Usually only one part stops fitting, and the right alternative depends on which part.

So this page isn't one ranked list. It's grouped by the reason you're looking:

  1. You want a different or bigger database: ZoomInfo, Cognism, Lusha, Seamless.AI
  2. You only need emails and want to pay less: Hunter, Snov.io
  3. You need sending that scales: Instantly, Smartlead, lemlist
  4. You want people who are asking right now, not a list of people who might: Needle, plus Leadfeeder for website visitors

If you are still choosing your first tool rather than replacing one, start with our best lead generation tools for SaaS guide, or the head-to-head Apollo vs Clay vs Sales Navigator.

What Apollo costs today (so you know what you're comparing against)

From apollo.io/pricing, October 21, 2026:

Plan Monthly billing Annual billing Credits
Free $0 $0 75 per seat per month
Basic $65 per seat $49 per seat 30,000 per seat per year (annual)
Professional $99 per seat $79 per seat 48,000 per seat per year (annual)
Organization annual only $119 per seat, 3-seat minimum 72,000 per seat per year

The plan details that usually decide whether Apollo still fits:

  • Phone numbers cost 8 credits; an email costs 1. A phone-heavy team burns credits about eight times faster than an email-only team.
  • Unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle.
  • Basic caps sending at 250 emails a day with one mailbox per user. Unlimited sending starts on Professional.
  • All seats must be on the same plan, and Organization needs at least 3 seats on an annual term.

None of that makes Apollo a bad deal. It does mean the common reasons to look around are about cost per useful contact, credit burn on phones, sending limits, and whether a database is the right starting point at all. Each group below answers one of those.

1. Database alternatives: when you want different data, not a different workflow

These replace Apollo's contact database. Most don't replace its sequencing, so budget for a sending tool too.

ZoomInfo

What it is: "The AI GTM platform that turns B2B intelligence into pipeline." Packages are built per use case (sales, marketing, data delivery).

Pricing: Not public. The pricing page says "ZoomInfo offers custom packages based on your B2B data use cases and needs," and each export costs one credit from a package allowance. Integrations "typically have a base cost… and require a minimum purchase of bulk credits," and Streaming Intent is priced separately.

Switch if: you're a larger sales org that wants a sales-led contract, intent add-ons and enterprise data delivery. Stay on Apollo if: you're a small team that needs published, per-seat pricing and monthly billing (ZoomInfo's FAQ says payment frequency is worked out with sales).

Cognism

What it is: Sales prospecting data with two quote-based plans, Standard and Pro, each with 5 seats included. Pro adds "higher-quality mobile data" and on-demand mobile verification (pricing page).

Pricing: Not public. 1 credit per revealed contact; re-viewing a contact you've already revealed is free.

Switch if: your team calls more than it emails and you have at least five people prospecting. Stay on Apollo if: you're one or two founders. A 5-seat starting package is a lot of seats to fill.

Lusha

What it is: A lightweight contact finder with a browser extension and CRM integrations (pricing page).

Pricing: Free (40 credits/mo); Starter $49.90 monthly or $37.45/mo annual (400 credits/mo); Pro $69.90 or $52.45 (600 credits/mo); Premium $399.90 or $299.95 (3,400 credits/mo). A phone number costs 5 credits, so Starter's 400 credits are about 80 phones a month. On monthly plans, unused credits roll over up to 2x the plan limit.

Switch if: you only need lookups while browsing LinkedIn or company sites, and credit rollover matters to you. Stay on Apollo if: you also use Apollo's sequences and dialer. Lusha won't replace them.

Seamless.AI

What it is: A credit-based contact search tool. Its pricing URL now redirects to a quote form ("Perfect Pricing for Startups to the Fortune 500").

Pricing: Not public. Its help center lists credit allowances: Free is a one-time 50 credits that don't replenish, Basic 250 per month, and Pro 10,000 per month for accounts created after April 1, 2026. One credit returns a full profile, emails and phones included.

Switch if: a quote gives you a credit pool that's cheaper per contact than Apollo for your volume, and you call a lot (no separate phone price). Stay on Apollo if: you want to see the price before talking to sales.

2. Cheaper email-first tools: when you only need the email address

Hunter

What it is: Email finding, verification and simple sequences, priced per account with no seat limit (pricing page).

Pricing: Free (50 credits/mo); Starter $49 monthly or $34/mo yearly (2,000 credits/mo); Growth $149 or $104 (10,000); Scale $299 or $209 (25,000). Credits reset monthly and don't roll over. Hunter doesn't sell phone numbers.

Switch if: your outreach is email-only and several people share the account. Apollo prices per seat; Hunter doesn't. Stay on Apollo if: you need phone numbers or a large filterable people database.

Snov.io

What it is: Email finder plus sequences with unlimited team seats on every plan (pricing page).

Pricing: A renewable free trial (50 credits, 100 recipients a month); Starter $39 monthly or $29.25/mo annual (1,000 credits); Pro S $99 or $74.25 (5,000 credits). LinkedIn automation costs $69 per slot per month extra. Credits roll over only on annual plans or with plan renewal enabled.

Switch if: you want the lowest entry price with sequences and a team that grows without per-seat cost. Stay on Apollo if: your plan depends on Apollo's filters for finding who to contact, not just their email.

3. Sending tools: when volume, not data, is the bottleneck

Apollo's Basic plan caps sending at 250 emails a day with one mailbox. Teams that hit that usually don't need a new database. They need a sender built around many inboxes and warmup.

Instantly

Pricing (pricing page): Outreach Growth $47/mo (5,000 emails/mo, 1,000 contacts, unlimited email accounts and warmup). Lead credits are a separate subscription (from $47/mo), or you can buy a bundle starting at $94/mo. The trial is 14 days with no card. Note that the pricing page shows different numbers in different places for some higher tiers, so confirm the plan you're buying at checkout.

Switch if: you already have a list and need to send more safely across many inboxes.

Smartlead

Pricing (pricing page): Base $39/mo or $32 annual (6,000 sends, 2,000 contacts); Pro $94 or $78; Unlimited Smart $174 or $144. On Base and Pro, verified prospect emails are a $59/month add-on, and Base has no CRM access. Free trial, no card.

Switch if: you run outbound for several clients (white-label workspaces from Pro) or need lots of mailboxes cheaply.

lemlist

Pricing (pricing page): Email plan $69 monthly or $55/mo yearly; Multichannel $109 per user monthly or $87 yearly, with LinkedIn, SMS and calls in the same sequence. Contact data is a paid add-on: $20/mo for 2,000 credits (400 emails or 100 phones); those credits roll over while you're subscribed. The standard trial is 14 days.

Switch if: your sequences mix email with LinkedIn steps and calls.

Stay on Apollo (for all three) if: you send modest volume and like having data and sequences in one tool. Splitting data and sending into two products adds a second bill and a handoff.

4. Intent-first: when the problem is who to contact, not how

Every tool above starts from the same question: who matches my ICP? Filters on title, industry and headcount give you people who could buy. They can't tell you who is looking this week.

That's a different job, and it's the one we built Needle for, so read this section knowing it's our product.

Needle (ours)

What it is: Buyer-intent search across public communities: Reddit, Hacker News, GitHub, Stack Overflow, Bluesky, Product Hunt and others (8 networks on Solo, 13 on Scale, including X and LinkedIn). It drops noise and ranks posts where people ask for a recommendation, compare tools or describe the problem you solve. Leads can go to Slack, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Notion, Airtable or a webhook, depending on plan (HubSpot and Pipedrive are on Scale).

Pricing (useneedle.net/pricing): Solo $15/mo, Growth $49/mo, Scale $149/mo; 7-day free trial, no card.

What the numbers look like: across all Needle customers from September 15 to October 15, 2026, Auto Search dropped 83% of keyword matches as noise, and only about 1 in 20 posts read was a strong buying signal. Most matches are noise; the point is ranking the few that aren't.

Use it alongside Apollo if: you want to know who has the problem now, then use a database tool to find the right person at that company. We describe that handoff in the B2B SaaS prospecting stack. Don't pick it if: you need thousands of contacts a month for volume outbound. It surfaces conversations, not a contact list.

Leadfeeder (for website visitors)

Different signal, same idea: start from behaviour. Leadfeeder identifies companies visiting your site. (Dealfront rebranded back to Leadfeeder on March 24, 2026; the old product is now called "Web Visitors.") The free Lite plan shows the last 100 companies a month; Discover starts at €79/mo billed annually (pricing page). It only helps once you have meaningful traffic.

How to choose in five minutes

  1. Write down the one thing Apollo isn't doing for you. Price, phones, sending volume, data fit, or knowing who to contact first.
  2. Match it to a group above and shortlist two tools from that group, not one from each.
  3. Test on your own ICP. Pull the same 25 target accounts in each free tier or trial and compare what comes back for your market. We don't publish accuracy numbers we haven't measured, and you shouldn't trust anyone else's without a sample of your own.
  4. Price the real bill. Add the sender if the tool has no sequences, the data add-on if the sender has no data, and phone credits if you call. Our lead generation pricing breakdown does this math for the common stacks.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Apollo.io alternative?

It depends on why you are leaving. For a larger enterprise database with sales support, ZoomInfo or Cognism (both quote-only). For cheap, simple email finding, Hunter or Snov.io. For sending at volume, Instantly, Smartlead or lemlist. For finding people who are publicly asking for a product like yours, an intent tool such as Needle. Many teams keep Apollo and add one of these rather than replacing it.

Is there a free Apollo.io alternative?

Several have free tiers. Hunter gives 50 credits a month, Lusha 40 credits a month, Snov.io a renewable trial with 50 credits a month, and Leadfeeder a free Lite plan for website visitors. Apollo's own free plan (75 credits a month per seat, as of October 21, 2026) is still one of the more generous ones, so compare before you switch.

Why do phone numbers cost more than emails?

Most contact databases price mobile numbers as several credits each. On October 21, 2026, Apollo charged 8 credits per phone number versus 1 per email, Lusha 5 credits per phone, and lemlist's data add-on bought 400 emails or 100 phones from the same 2,000 credits. If you mostly call, model your credit burn on phones, not emails.

Is ZoomInfo better than Apollo?

They target different budgets. ZoomInfo is quote-only with custom packages and is built for larger sales teams; Apollo publishes prices from $49 per seat per month billed annually. We don't publish accuracy comparisons we haven't tested. Ask both vendors for a sample export of your own ICP and check it yourself before signing.

Can I use Needle instead of Apollo?

Not as a like-for-like swap. Needle (our product) doesn't sell a contact database. It finds public posts on Reddit, Hacker News, GitHub, Stack Overflow and other communities where people ask for recommendations or describe the problem you solve. Teams use it before or alongside a database tool, to decide who to contact first and what to say.
