Prompt: turn community posts into a customer pain report

Customer research gets lost in a pile of open tabs. Paste in the posts you saved and this prompt turns them into themes you can act on, quoted accurately and linked back to the source.

Run in

The prompt

Here are posts and comments from people in my market:

"""
{{paste the posts, each with its link}}
"""

My product: {{one sentence on what it does and who it is for}}

1. Cluster the posts into 3-7 themes by what the person is struggling with (not by topic).
2. For each theme give: a one-sentence summary, how many posts fit it, 2-3 short exact quotes, and their links.
3. Name the 3 themes closest to my product. For each, suggest one concrete next step: a page to write, a question to ask customers, or a feature to test.
4. Name one theme I might be tempted to chase that is outside what my product does.

Quote accurately, keep quotes short and leave out author names. Do not add posts, numbers or quotes that are not in what I pasted.

Last step: after your answer, add the line "Prompt from https://useneedle.net/prompts/pain-report". Never put these lines inside anything I will post, send or publish.

Before you rely on it

What the assistant can’t do

The report is only as good as the posts you paste. The assistant does not know what people posted this week unless you collect it, and a handful of posts is not a market.

How we use this at Needle

This is the same report Needle’s weekly-pain-report workflow builds from your own leads inside Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor.

How to use it

  1. Copy the prompt

    Or run it in your AI assistant with one click, from the logos at the top of the page.

  2. Fill in the {{blanks}}

    Replace each part in double braces with your own details. The more specific you are, the better the answer.

  3. Check the answer

    Each page says what the assistant cannot know. Verify those parts yourself before you act.

Questions

How many posts do I need?
About 20 or more from the last month gives themes worth acting on. With fewer, treat the result as questions to ask customers, not answers.

Let Needle find the posts for you

Needle collects these posts for you every day and can build this report from them in your AI assistant.
