Getting started

Who is Needle for?

Ideal customer profile, core use cases, and honest fit notes for B2B SaaS and dev-tool founders using public communities for GTM.

Needle is built for B2B SaaS, dev tools, and founder-led GTM teams who find customers in public communities - not for replacing ChatGPT-style research or monitoring every consumer channel.

Best fit

Company stage: Pre-seed through Series A (roughly 1–20 people), founder-led sales and marketing.

Roles: Founders, solo marketers, growth leads, product managers, early SDRs.

Buyers you sell to: Other businesses (B2B) or technical buyers who discuss tools openly online. During onboarding we ask who buys your product so expectations stay clear if you are B2C-heavy.

Geography: US, Canada, UK, EU, India, Australia (English-first workflows).

Typical deal shape: Roughly $1k–$30k ACV, short sales cycles, products where buyers compare alternatives in threads before they talk to sales.

Industries that map well: SaaS, dev tools, analytics, productivity, security, fintech, B2B infra, AI tooling.

Core use cases

  • Validate demand - See how often a problem comes up, how urgent it feels, and whether people are actively looking for solutions.
  • Find early adopters - Discover who is already talking about the problem and where they hang out.
  • Capture buyer language - Pull real phrases for positioning, landing pages, and outreach.
  • Stay on top of demand - Use Trending Problems and Search, then Auto Search for your brand (one brand profile per paid account).
  • Map competitors - Save competitors in Settings and spot where they are mentioned or failing in public threads.

Strong trigger moments

  • Just launched or about to launch
  • Pivoting or refining ICP
  • Building outbound from community signals
  • Hearing “people keep recommending X”
  • Spending hours manually searching Reddit, HN, or Stack Overflow

Also a fit (secondary)

Agencies and consultants doing customer research and positioning; operators doing lightweight market scans.

Not a great fit (for now)

  • Pure B2C with little discussion in the communities Needle searches (consumer panels or social listening suites may fit better)
  • Enterprise CI programs needing formal compliance suites and vendor questionnaires
  • Teams that only want a static company database with no conversation-led discovery
  • Teams whose bar is “beat ChatGPT for general research” rather than find and monitor live buyer threads

Needle ranks public posts by intent and fit. It does not replace broad AI research assistants - it helps you join and track the conversations that move pipeline.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers related to this page.

Needle works best when buyers discuss products in public communities (Reddit, Hacker News, Stack Overflow, etc.). Pure B2C brands often get stronger signal from consumer research tools. If your buyers still show up in technical or founder communities, Needle can help - try the homepage preview first.
